This page contains information about existing computer tools that can be used by Persian language teachers in the classroom or by Persian language learners who are doing research, preparing reports, or doing exercises. Most of these tools are freely available but we have also listed a few tools that are in preparation and are not yet available to the public. The latter have been included in this list to show the potential for Persian language tools in the coming future.

This section includes information on:

*      Typing and Transcription
typing Persian, converting between scripts (Persian, Pinglish, Tajik)

*      Using the web for teaching: Online tools
dictionaries and lexicons, searching in Persian or in Pinglish, verb conjugation, calendar converters, search trends analysis

*      Working with a corpus (collection of texts)

*      Computational linguistics: Higher-level computational applications

*      Future directions for Persian

This information is based on a talk presented at the STARTALK workshop for Teachers of Persian at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, on July 16, 2010 by Dr. Karine Megerdoomian. More detailed information on existing computational tools for Persian (not limited to teaching applications) can be found on the Persian Wiki site.

Disclaimer: The list of tools in this section is not exhaustive and a number of important and relevant tools may have been missed. This page is intended solely as an introduction to computational tools for teachers of Persian. These pages are not intended as an endorsement for the tools and are made available only for informational purposes.
